We have a 4 year old insistent on helping in the kitchen. We thought having her own bake set would help. However, we were disappointed in this product.The entire set does not seem proportional and feels cheap. This is surprising for Dr. Oekter products. For example, the whisk and spatula are tiny as if meant for doll play. The cookie cutters are non functional if you can believe that, so don't expect to make cookies with them.If you take the product for what it is- just a cheap playset, you may be OK with it. However, at the current price point. I would not bother and instead buy a really cheap toy version- without the Dr. Oekter brand price.

And if the activity is educational in any way, so much the better.So I was pleased with the Dr. Oekter 2494 Kids Baking Set with Mixing Bowl that is intended to help children learn from their parents how to bake. The set is promoted as helping children learn about nutrition, measurements, following directions and how to plan in the kitchen.All the promotional claims may be true but I was disappointed in the quality of the set. Since 1891, Dr. Oekter has been a trusted brand in Europe for its quality of product ingredients and has expanded their line to include cakes, puddings, frozen pizza, baking aids, dessert mixes, and organic products.And so one would hope for quality in whatever Oekter puts on the market. But the bowl, cookie cutters, spatula, whisk, etc. looked like they would last through several uses by children, supervised or not. The set is fine for pretend play by children but are not that functional for real baking. The concept was good but the producers failed to delivery. Back to the drawing board or stick to baking products.

I had high expectations for this set. All three of my children like to help in the kitchen and I thought this would be perfect for the younger two.The positive: The mixing bowl is a decent size and would be useful in the kitchen as long as spoons or whisks are used to mix the ingredients. The measuring spoons are actually functional.The negatives: The measuring cup doesn't measure in cups or any portion of them. There are ounces and metric measurements. I admit, this would be a good tool in teachiing math. However, the set is aimed at a group too young to be doing such calculations.The whisk and spatual are tiny. They wouldn't do much good...even in the mixing bowl that comes with the set because even that bowl would be too big for those tools to work.The cookie cutters are useless. Not sure if they'd even cut Play Doh and I have no idea what most of the shapes are.My kids used their new baking set in the bath tub and had a ball. It is virutally useless in any other room of the house.If you are looking for a baking set for make believe play, this is a good one. Otherwise, total FAIL and not worth the money. Items from the dollar store would be a better bet for young bakers or even for make believe play.
